At 1842 on March 16, the Beverly Fire Department responded to number 6 Northern Ave for a report of a fire. Upon arrival, Captain Maggiacomo found a fire in a microwave above a stove and requested a hose line. Crews from Truck 1 and Engine 5 advanced a line and quickly extinguished the fire. The crews also checked the areas around the microwave for fire extension, finding none. The fire and water damage was confined to the kitchen, but the odor of smoke was throughout the home. The homowner suffered minor burn injuries to her hands but refused medical treatment. The fire was caused when a pressure cooker over pressurized blowing the cover off. The contents were released sending water into the microwave causing a short circuit. Fire crews were on scene for approximately 45 minutes. Lt D. Philpot
